Abstract: This publication summarizes the current knowledge about the Kaalijarv meteorite, with a brief historical outline of the craters, and presents and discusses the latest research results on this meteorite. Kaalijarv belongs to the IAB group and is a coarse-grained octahedrite, and its polished and etched surface reveals Widmanstätten figures. It is composed mainly of kamacite, with smaller amounts of taenite, schreibersite and rhabdite. Current research allowed to identify such phases as graphite, sphalerite and most probably native lead, native nickel and/or avaruite, and anhydrous carbonate and/or chlorate.
Fragments of the meteorite are found in Estonia, in the southeastern part of the Baltic island of Saaremaa. Meteorites found so far had small masses ranging from a few to several dozen grams. Still, recently, it was possible to recover the main mass of a meteorite, which was 5.7 kg.
